Ron's Story
Ron is a single father of two boys aged 8 and 10.
Right now he works at a local gas station and stays with a family friend. “Ron” receives childcare support from Safe Families for Children and the organization describes him as a “hard worker” with an “extremely kind heart”. “Ron’s” means of transportation to and from work is his problem.
His truck is old and in need of a major and costly repair. Safe Families requested the Brooks Foundation help with this repair. This would help "Ron" continue to save money and not put his job in jeopardy.
Brooks Foundation paid the $3426 directly to the mechanic to help "Ron" stay on his feet.
Susan's Story
Susan is a single mom with a teenaged daughter.
She had a job and had a home, but, Covid hit her hard. It hit hard, not with illness, but with the ripple effects of the pandemic lockdown. Her landlord asked her to move out because of Covid. She found an RV space, and had paid a deposit, but needed help with rent and repairs to her car.
Lincoln County School District, Homeless Outreach Program Coordinator Katey Townsend requested Brooks Foundation's help; with parts and one month's rent. A total of $865.
Brooks Foundation provided $1,000.00 for two months rent, so she'd have the flexibility to deal with the cost of parts.
Michelle's Story
Michelle is a single mother of a six-year-old son, who was dealing with housing insecurity.
Although working at a motel in the area, she didn’t make enough to secure a place to live. “Michelle” and her son were living in their small car. When it got too cold, Safe Families for Children would provide respite care for the six-year-old, or they would stay at a warming shelter.Â
Needless to say, "Michelle's" car was very important to her. But that car was at the end of its life. "Michelle" was able to find another vehicle-this time a van. She asked volunteers for help to make sure it was mechanically sound. But she still needed help to pay for it.
Safe Families referred her need to Brooks Foundation which researched the price of the van using Kelly Blue Book and was able to secure the van at the lower actual market price.
Brooks Foundation support allowed "Michelle" to continue to save her own money, which will get her closer to full housing security.
Angela's Story
Angela is a single mother of four children aged 7-14 (including 7-year-old twins).
She has a full-time job at one of the seafood canneries, but the work is seasonal. The seasonal nature of her work can make supporting her family difficult. In fact, they were homeless for two years. But “Angela” was able to pay a deposit and first month’s rent.
As many know - the initial costs for housing can be challenging. It ate into "Angela's" savings. That is when the H.E.L.P. Center reached out to the Brooks Foundation to fund "Angela's" request for one month's rent, to bridge her expenses through the reduced hours at the cannery.
That help would mean she wouldn't lose her apartment. Brooks Foundation granted that the request and paid the one months rent to help alleviate "Angela's" stress.
The Robinson Family
A painful trial can severely disrupt our life. The sudden death of Array was very emotionally devastating. The past few weeks were filled with grief and despair that is overwhelming with causing disorientation…We just want to thank you for the concern and love.
